This private residence consists of three interlocking volumes; each volume is very simple in its form. The first impression one has is that the house is made of two “black boxes” connected by a glass bridge. However, as you enter the house, the perception changes. From the interior, the bridge is no longer a figure, but rather a looking glass to the outside. The slate floor extends to the north, and the suspended birch ceiling feels as though it is touching the trees.
The single story master suite becomes an intimate walnut valise, retreating from the exposed glass room. The guest suite is reached by a dramatic stainless steel bridge passing through a two-story screened porch. The northern end of the house contains a private balcony looking down to the lap pool set into the woods. The 3,000 sqft house is anchored by a massive handset stone chimney. The stained cedar boxes at each end of the open living area further complement the central chimney. Slate floors inside and out provide the opportunity for both natural and assisted radiant heating. American Walnut floors in the master bedroom and library create a material connection between the modern and the old.
“The entire team from CRD has been diligent in delivering a fantastic finished product, built with precision and detail.”
